We teach the GROW BIOINTENSIVE agroecological method researched and developed by
John Jeavons at Ecology Action in California, USA, to farmers who want to improve their yields.

The GROW BIOINTENSIVE method is ORGANIC. Some of its many advantages are:
Yields increase from two to six timesDeeply dug beds and loosened soil retain water and nutrients
Soil gains fertility with every growing season
Raised beds stop erosionExtra yields add cash to family budget and raise standard of living
Improved family nutrition Saves both money and labor
Fredrick Onyango, SADA Director: "Food security begins with sustainability of soil fertility. We established SADA Centre to restore the hope of farmers that despite the extent of soil degradation we can get our soil fertility back. The SADA staff trains farmers on compost making, management, and cured compost application. Some other major components are soil moisture conservation, crop diversity and rotation, cover cropping, minimal tillage (double digging) and use of open pollinated seeds."
SADA promotes women empowerment
In order to serve the community, SADA is guided by the following values: Hard Work, Integrity, Team Work, Learning Growth, and Sustainability.
Building a compost pile
Some features of the GROW BIOINTENSIVE METHOD
• First, envisioning the farm as a closed system that does not require outside
inputs; and working toward achieving that goal.
• Organic, no added chemicals.
• Double digging (deep digging) to aerate the soil and allow roots to go deep.
• Beds that can be any length, but are narrow in width so that weeding and
harvesting can be easily done without stepping on the prepared soil.
• Composting for soil fertilisation using on-farm biomass.
• Specific companion planting that promotes a good growing environment.
• INTENSIVE spacing of plants to optimize output (offset close spacing).
• Diversification of crops.
• Use of open pollinated seeds instead of hybrid or GMO.
In 2019, Fredrick Onyango attended a six months internship with John Jeavons at Ecology Action in California to study the science and techniques of the GROW BIOINTENSIVE method.
Fredrick and his wife Hellen invite you to visit SADA Centre
"We invite you to visit our demonstration gardens and consider signing up for a training workshop or session. We will show you how you can increase your farm production and income while producing crops that better nourish your family."
